Community and School District:
Hilliard is a suburban, residential community located northwest ofColumbus,Ohio. Encompassing approximately sixty square miles, the Hilliard City School District has been among the fastest growing districts in the state. It is the ninth largest public school district in Ohio with 15,500 students and has met 26 of 26 performance indicators on the state report card earning “Excellent with Distinction”. A large percentage of the students are college bound. The majority of the school district’s over 80,000 residents are business, professional and blue-collar workers.
School:
Hilliard Darby High School, a four-year comprehensive public school of 1453 students including 308 seniors, is fully accredited and in meeting 10 of 10 performance indicators was rated “Excellent With Distinction” by The State of Ohio Department of Education. School is in session 183 days a year. The academic year is divided into two semesters with four nine-week grading periods. Class periods are fifty minutes in length.

Hilliard Darby High School has 108 certificated professional staff. Of the certificated staff, 64.1% have earned advanced degrees.
Graduation Requirements: (through 2012-13)
Darby is a comprehensive secondary school that includes college preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, occupational, vocational, and adjustment programs. Twenty-one units of credit as well as passing all five sections of The Ohio Graduation Test are required for graduation. Those credits must include:
English – 4 units Science – 3 units Health/P.E. – 1 unit
Mathematics – 3 units Social Studies – 3 units I.C.A. – 1/2 unit
(U.S. Government, Economics or
Civics, U.S. History, S.S. Elective)
Advanced Placement and Honors:
Advanced Placement courses are offered in English Literature & Composition, English Language & Composition, U.S. Government & Politics, U.S. History, European History, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Biology, French, German, Spanish and Computer Science. Honors courses are offered in English 9, English 10, Science 9, Biology, Chemistry, and Algebra 2 (beginning 2010-11).
Post Secondary Enrollment Option:
The state sponsored dual enrollment option is available to all students who meet the requirements of respective post secondary institutions. In addition dual enrollment options at Hilliard Darby High School are offered in English Literature, Statistics, U.S. Government, Physics, Chemistry and Spanish through Kenyon College (KAP); Foreign Language through Columbus State C.C.; Pre-Engineering through Sinclair Community College; and Business through Ohio Dominican University.

Class rank is determined by the G.P.A. The student with the highest G.P.A. is ranked first, second highest is ranked second, etc.
